The Pro Rider P3 Powerchair / Electric Wheelchair

The Pro Rider P3 Powerchair / Electric Wheelchair

If you like the manoeuvrability and compact size of your wheelchair, and you think a class 2 or class 3 mobility scooter may be a little large for you, then you need a powerchair.

A Powerchair is the modern day equivalent of an electric wheelchair. But, not only is the name modern, the technology is now far superior to the old electric wheelchairs of the past.

Comfort, ease of use and manoeuvrability is now a key factor in the design of powerchairs. A powerchair is easy to use around the house, out on the street or around the supermarket. It is lightweight, flexible and robust and it will take you to your destination quickly and easily.

Pro Rider Mobility have developed the P3 Powerchair. It is designed to be ultra comfortable and ultra reliable and with the ability to turn on its own axis, making it extremely good at negotiating tight spaces.

It has also been designed to be very easy to operate and simple to charge the battery. Just set it up and you will be “powering” around with freedom in minutes.

Adding to the flexibility of the P3 Powerchair is the ability to have the controls mounted on either the left or right armrest. This allows left and right handed operators to have the freedom and comfort of choice.

Financial Help for the Disabled

Did you know that there are a whole range of government schemes and incentives to make purchasing essential mobility equipment more affordable?

In this blog (and future blogs), we aim to point out a few of these schemes and give you advice and pointers on who to contact to make the most of them.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability if you’re aged 16 to 64.

You could get between £21.55 and £138.05 a week.

The rate depends on how your condition affects you, not the condition itself.

You’ll need an assessment to work out the level of help you get. Your award will be regularly reassessed to make sure you’re getting the right support.

You can find out more about whether you are eligible for the PIP here.

Benefits Calculator

Working out what you are entitled to can be a bit daunting. There seem to be lots of criteria and lots of questions and this can put quite a few people off. So, you may be missing out on the benefits that are rightly yours.

There is a very handy online calculator we have come across that will help you find out what you are entitled to. It can be accessed here. Just follow through the sections and fill out the information.

There is also a lot of information available at the Citizens Advice bureau here.

VAT Relief

When buying mobility products, many people are not aware that they may be able to buy the product without VAT. With VAT at 20%, this can make quite a difference when purchasing an expensive item such as a mobility scooter.

For example, a £1200 mobility scooter would without vat would be £1000. A £200 saving for filling in the right information and knowing you are entitled to VAT relief.

Below are some examples of products that can qualify for VAT relief:

If you are disabled or have a long term illness, then you can qualify for VAT relief on any of Pro Rider Mobility’s products.

At Pro Rider Mobility, we have made it really simple to purchase our mobility products VAT free. We have a simple online form for you to fill in and after that, your shopping basket is not charged with any VAT.

The Original Mobility Scooter

The "Amigo" - Original Mobility Scooter
The “Amigo” – Original Mobility Scooter

Mobility Scooters have transformed the lives of many people with limited movement. The freedom and dignity these devices give is without a doubt life-changing.

And with all their modern functions, such as indicators, powerful motors and long life batteries, you would be forgiven for thinking that the mobility scooter was a pretty recent invention.

Well, the first mobility scooter was invented way back in 1967 by an American named Al Thieme. Al went on a trip to Mexico and needed to rent a wheelchair for a family member. This is what gave him the idea to go that step further and take the concept of the wheelchair and give it power and independent steering.

Al invented the “Amigo”, the “family friend” that could give independence and dignity to his less able relative.

After witnessing the joy of her new mobility, Al decided to go into production and the first mobility scooters were adaptations of a stand-up electronic warehouse cart.

The “Amigo” went into production in 1970 and by 1975 the mobility scooters were selling well. Other manufacturers soon started copying the idea and other varieties of mobility scooter were soon in production.

Early models were very basic and quite unstable with no suspension and limited movement. But, products evolve with need and customer feedback has made modern mobility scooters the advanced machinery they are today.

Pro Rider Mobility is proud to sell the next generation of mobility scooter with increased comfort, increased power and increased battery life.
